Police Department Regional Programs
D.A.R.T. (Drug Abuse Reduction Task Force)
This unit is an undercover narcotics team that was formed in the late 1980’s to combat drug abuse in the suburban areas of Hamilton County. In addition to arresting drug pushers and users, the unit also provides educational programs within the communities they serve and their school districts.
S.W.A.T. (Special Weapons and Tactics Team)
The City of Montgomery Police Department is a participating agency in the Hamilton County Police Association SWAT team.
The HCPA SWAT team draws members from agencies throughout Hamilton County. Team members include police officers, EMTs/paramedics, emergency room doctors and personnel from the Hamilton County Communications Center. The HCPA SWAT team is available to police agencies twenty four hours a day, for any high risk situation that exceeds the tactical resources of the requesting department.
The SWAT team regularly trains for incidents involving barricaded subjects, hostage situations, high risk warrant service and other scenarios. This enables police departments to more safely and effectively manage these types of incidents.
Any individual who volunteers for the HCPA SWAT team must be recommended by their Chief of Police, pass stringent physical fitness requirements, an interview process and a psychological evaluation before being considered for a position on the team. This ensures that only qualified and highly motivated individuals are chosen. The City of Montgomery has three police officers participating in this capacity.
